Why Some Nutrients Need A Meal
Four of the thirteen on our panel behave completely differently from the rest, and it changes when you should take them.

Nutrients divide into two groups that behave so differently they may as well be separate categories. Knowing which is which changes when you take them, whether they accumulate, and which ones carry a real ceiling.
Water Soluble: Use It Or Lose It
The B vitamins and vitamin C dissolve in water, circulate in the watery part of your blood, and are filtered out by the kidneys once the machinery is saturated. They are not meaningfully stored, which has three consequences.
Daily intake matters more. There is no reservoir to draw down, so a gap shows up faster than it would with a stored nutrient.
Excess is usually excreted. This is why biotin and B12 have no established upper limit, and why very high doses of B vitamins famously turn urine bright yellow.
They do not need a meal. They absorb perfectly well on an empty stomach, though some people find B vitamins easier on the stomach with food.
Fat Soluble: Stored, And Capped
Vitamins A, D, E and K dissolve in fat, are absorbed alongside dietary fat, and are stored in the liver and in fatty tissue. That storage is useful and it is also the reason these are the vitamins with meaningful ceilings.
They need dietary fat to be absorbed. Taken with no fat anywhere nearby, a portion of the dose simply passes through. This is the single practical reason our instruction says to take Gelagen within half an hour of a meal.
They accumulate. Which is what makes vitamin A the one figure on our panel with a genuine upper limit, and why it is the reason this product is not suitable in pregnancy.
Malabsorption hits them first. Anyone with a condition affecting fat absorption — coeliac disease, Crohn's, cystic fibrosis, or surgery shortening the intestine — is far more likely to be short of A, D, E and K than of the water-soluble group.

What This Means In Practice
Take it near a meal. Not because the instruction is fussy, but because four of the thirteen genuinely absorb better that way. Any meal containing some fat will do, and almost every meal does.
Do not assume "more is fine" across the board. It is broadly true for the water-soluble group and emphatically not true for vitamin A.
Add up your fat-soluble intake across products. Stored nutrients are the ones where two comfortable labels can produce an uncomfortable total, which is its own piece.
The One Mineral Exception
Minerals do not fit either box neatly. Zinc is absorbed through specific transporters, competes with copper for the same route, and is bound by phytates in grains and legumes. That is why our zinc figure is deliberately modest rather than impressive, and why the zinc page spends most of its length explaining a number that looks small.
Quick Answers
How much fat counts as 'with food'?
Very little. An ordinary breakfast containing eggs, dairy, nut butter or cooking oil is plenty. You do not need to engineer anything.
Can I take it with black coffee only?
You can, but you give up part of the fat-soluble half. A meal within the hour fixes it.
Do fat-soluble vitamins build up dangerously?
They can, over sustained high intake. At the amounts on our panel the concern is arithmetic across products rather than this product alone.
